The Telegraph: UK & World News App Reviews

Improved

The last few weeks have seen some improvements on the I Pad edition, but is still poor compared to some of the competition. The articles need more depth and the feel of the app just not seem right.

New Subscriber

Very disappointed to find no book or record reviews in your iPad edition - its one of the main reasons I bought the paper! I shant bother again......

Disappointed

Just subscribed to DT for iPad and must say am very disappointed. Will be canceling forthwith. On-line version much better!

Patience required

Problems with automatic download and crashes more than it should - navigation tedious and more publicity than there should be for a paid app

Stopping the subscription

Unfortunately the app crashes and needs to be reinstalled far too much - swapping to the Times!

Rubbish

I have a digital subscription but this app doesnt accept my details

Satisfied customer

As a newcomer to iPads and apps, and living in France, I have "free trialled" several papers in an effort to save me the extortionate costs of buying the papers here. The Telegraph app is slow to download, but I get there eventually and find the content very good. I do the crosswords every day and think the "marking" is great, so I can see my mistakes from the previous day. The picture gallery is excellent as is all the usual D.T. content. I would like to see a weather forecast and perhaps the top 100 shares, plus latest exchange rates.

Frustrated

Like many other reviews I am fed-up with having to continually reload the app. It has to be one of the worst offenders. Also if I come out of the store and go back in at a later period, unlike your competitors, I have to wait for the publication to reload from zero. This app is far too time consuming but I persevere because I like the cryptic crossword. Also there are too many adverts. It appears to me that you pay no attention whatsoever to your disappointed readers. I have wasted a morning trying to open the App and have given up trying. It appears to me that it is a waste of time writing a review if no action is taken. With so many of us of the same opinion why has nothing been done to improve this App?

Could do better

Love having the newspaper fresh every morning here in France, but as with many others I get very frustrated with the failure to load. So often the app sticks and has to be reloaded from scratch. Also, I would love to have the general knowledge crossword on Saturday and a sudoku on Sunday.

P

Very pleasant app. Would be perfect if it were possible to share articles on Twitter or Facebook directly from the app. I have to go back to the web site instead. Any plans to fix this? Best regards.

No night reading mode

Improvement on old app EXCEPT no night reading mode white on black.

Excellent

Easy to use and move between topic categories. Clear format. Easy and quick to download each day. Excellent coverage of supplements at weekends. Puzzle section entries and checking solutions works well.

Daily Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph

I do so wish we could have the Polyword, and the big prize general knowledge crossword puzzles on the electronic DT and ST. However Im pleased that we can now submit the prize cryptic crossword puzzles using the I-pad. But living in France, access to my favourite newspaper is a real treat, and I appreciate this.

Great app

Great app. Hoping for a Night mode soon

Daily telegraph

If you are a Daily telegraph reader then tips app is for you. Very user friendly, timely and has all the contents that you get with the paper version

What exactly..

..did the publisher think of, when he releassed the updatenotes without a hint of the content now only being available to subscribers? Luckily I still had the old app on backup and can now read the Telegraph without subscription. I do get the desire and necessity of earning your money with your content, but thats why the "old" app had ads in it. Other than this, Id actually rate the app 5 stars, in the old version. Maybe Im biased for the abovementioned fact, but I liked the old design better.

Good to know

I always wanted a 7/24 newspaper. The App-store has offered this newspaper. Since one week its my daily news guide! I do not regret it.

Good content, poor editing

I love getting the telegraph delivered to my iPad every morning. It is a bargain for the price and has an excellent structure and content. But the copy is riddled with spelling mistakes, typing errors, duplication of sentences and downright poor editing, only worthy of a copy of an early 90s Guardian! So come on guys, pick up on the quality and you have a 5 star product.

Buggy update and too many ads

Awful update, which caused the app to crash and so I could not read the paper yesterday as a result. The number of advertisements is annoying, considering we are paying a lot for this app. Please remove the ads!

Ruined by ads

The heavily intrusive ads you have persistently forced upon your readership have with the latest incarnation of your iPad/iPhone app reached such a pathetically begging-to-be-noticed level that I have often resorted to reading the web version of the paper in my browser. Since a broad swathe of users dont actually read the adds and instead find them merely irritatingly ubiquitous, you are only making your app less attractive. The Times meanwhile has a far superior app and allows the e-mailing of articles to popularise the paper. It also allows an in-app web or dictionary search that your app used to have! Used to have but not any more: your app is becoming less fun to use and you will ultimately drive away users rather than gain new ones. Shame on you for totally ignoring your app users feedback. Try reading the iTunes reviews of your app instead of your ad revenue reports. And PLEASE desist from writing me another falsely fawning response in which you say the ads are a necessary add-in to finance the app. Thats like saying "We understand your point but are obliged to completely ignore it". A mind-bogglingly thoughtless and user-unfriendly stance.
